Colonel Walker Henderson Scott Sr. was born on 11 May 1910 in Pike County, Kentucky, USA. He was born to Henderson Walker Scott and Gladys Ella Cline. He used to work in local mills. He was popular in the locality as a con artist who was an expert in deceiving people after gaining their trust first. He had two sisters and one brother namely Darwin Morell Scott, Hazel Marie Scott, and Ethel Mae Scott.

Personal Life

Colonel Walker Henderson Scott Sr. was married to Ada Kathleen Maddox. However, the exact marriage date is not known. He deceived Maddox by letting her believe that he was an army Colonel. But it was just a name given to him. When Maddox informed him that she was pregnant with their first child, he made an excuse saying that he was called away for military duties. After several months she understood that it was his intention not to come. Maddox was 15 years old when she gave birth to their son, Charles Manson, on November 12, 1934. Later she filed a paternity suit against him. It was sorted out in 1937 in a joint agreement. Surprisingly, Maddox married again before their son was born. She married a laborer at a dry cleaning business, William Eugene Manson, in August 1934. Walker’s son, Charles, never came to know about him. He had another son who was named after him, Colonel Walker Henderson Scott Jr.

His Son’s Story

His son, Charles Mason, was an American criminal, cult leader, and musician. He was the leader of the Mason Family, a commune, gang, and cult based in California in the late 1960s and early 1970s. It consisted of almost 100 followers. Most of them were young women from middle-class backgrounds. In July and August 1969, they killed a series of at least nine murders at four different locations. Charles was convicted of first-degree murder and conspiracy to murder for the deaths of 7 people, including the film actress Sharon Tate.

While radicalizing his cult following, he was a singer-songwriter. He met record producer Terry Melcher through Dennis Wilson. In 1968, they recorded his song “Never Learn Not to Love”, but without giving credit to him. While serving his punishment in Corcoran Prison, he fell very ill. On January 1, 2017, he was having gastrointestinal bleeding and was rushed to Mercy Hospital in downtown Bakersfield. On November 19, 2017, he died from cardiac arrest.

On 30 December 1954, he passed away at the age of 44 in Ashland, Boyd County, Kentucky, USA. His burial was done in Catlettsburg, Body County, Kentucky, USA.
